Knowledge is a slow process. There’s an expectation that, because of their learning, the intellectual can always react to and opine on the moment. I reject that and leave it to the pundits. This Substack is where I’ll be sharing my thoughts and meditations, reflections for when I pause to look back and make sense of the ground covered as I trudge along the journey.
My writing is not geared towards “relevance” — that now distasteful word that, by mistaking knowledge for information, renders it into a commodity valuated by standards of utility and consumption. This is a place for thinking. If that interests you, welcome.
My interests are broad. They range from all things Islamic (law, ethics, philosophy, etc.), to philosophy and Theory (capital “T”), and more recently dilettantism in law and political economy. I’ll be using this space as a notepad of sorts to jot down half-baked ideas.
A little about me: I did a PhD on Islamic law at Princeton, got a law degree from Stanford, and a couple of more degrees from Oxford and UCLA.
